Parent's Reflected Eyes

On forgiving our parents...

We are constantly reminded

Of what we left behind

When our souls are reflected

In our parents eyes

As they gaze right through us

With love or adoration

Hatred or lust

Broken reputations

Their words form our worlds

Then their words

Form our hurts

Then their words

Are distorted blurs

Maybe we hold their hands

Or kiss their faces

Or we turn away from them

From hurtful places

To never see that reflection

Of painful memories

In their angry eyes

Hoping only

For their swift demise

The one good surprise

From a childhood of lies
