A Messy Mind

On making your bed each morning...

I always know when my week is starting to go off balance.

My office becomes an absolute crap hole.

I start to lose things under things.

A wallet under a pad of paper.

A parking ticket under a coffee cup.

This messiness then has a knock on effect.

  1. When I need something and cannot easily find it, this becomes a distraction
  2. When I lose something that I need right now, this becomes a time suck
  3. When I look at the chaos unfolding, this becomes a depressant

The old adage from Admiral McRaven about making your bed in the morning, is more true now to me, than it was when I was a rebellious teenager.

Because I have more things to do.

This lack of order in my environment, reflects a lack of order in my mind.

But the consequences today are much greater.

A client's work turns out sloppy.

A sales opportunity gets missed.

A phone call does not get returned to a loved one.

So if you're wandering... what does a messy mind =

It's a messy environment.

For me at least.
